Actually, they aren't linked together yet. Eventually, it will be a
"release" of Turbine bundled with the TDK. For now, you just get cutting
edge snapshots of Turbine from CVS based on the day that the TDK was built.
This is why the TDK is still marked as ALPHA.
However, this shouldn't stop you at all from using whatever version of
Turbine that you would like to use with the TDK. All you need to do is take
your own snapshot of Turbine, build a .jar file and replace the
turbine-2.0.jar file in the TDK with whatever version of Turbine you want.
This is exactly how I'm doing development for Scarab. What I did was remove
all of the documentation and other non-needed stuff from the 1.1a3 version
of the TDK and I checked everything into Scarab's CVS tree (look in the
sandbox directory). This gives people the ability to simply check Scarab's
sandbox out of CVS and run everything without having to edit a single
configuration file. If I need to upgrade Turbine, the version of turbine.jar
in Scarab's CVS is simply updated and people can re-check it out to get the
latest version of the sandbox. This model has worked EXTREMELY well for me.
This stuff isn't rocket science.
