This would probably be simple to add to the Log class, but there are
other issues. We need the logging facility to have access to the
ServletContext (if it is being used with the Turbine servlet), so that
logfile paths can be relative to the app directory. This is "best"
accomplished by adding a LogService to Turbine.
This has been suggested by others and myself before, so someone should
speak up if they are working on it.
You might as well include a more robust/complete logging implementation
of the service and the Avalon logging package is a good candidate. A
simple implementation that wraps the Log class may also be a good start,
but I really think we should not continue to develop a different logging
mechanism, when there are better oss versions already in place and even
as part of another Apache project.
Of course I am just suggesting all this. But please someone take this
on.
