Yes that was it : babel was not installed ; ok I can now extract messages .
(but anyway I'm surprised : is there not a test showing that there is a
missing dependance?)

Well I continued a bit further , I translated a few sentences with
poedit, compile the french catalog ...
and ....

I got a unicode error !
I did it three times with the TG2 doc and I really have this Unicode error.
So I read the links and I went to the babel and pylons doc ( Pylons’
Internationalization and Localization
<http://wiki.pylonshq.com/display/pylonsdocs/Internationalization+and+Localization>

doc and Babel’s UserGuide
<http://babel.edgewall.org/wiki/Documentation/index.html>)

, which suggested me to read some doc on Unicode (/'This document
assumes you have read the Unicode document'
<http://wiki.pylonshq.com/display/pylonsdocs/Unicode> it says )/ but
really I couldn't find any reason why TG doesn't handle correctly the
translated messages.

I was giving a new try to TG through TG2. I really like the concept of
all the bricks glued together .

But there 's really too much problem with it.
Nothing works out of the bag as you could expect from a beta6, almost
rc1 version with marketting and all.

Summary of my last evenings of work with TG2

First I did try to install TG2 with python 2.6; I found a problem that I
could solve easily, the doc goes : '/The most widely deployed version of
python at the moment of this writing is version 2.5. Both python 2.4 and
python 2.6 require additional steps which will be covered in the
appropriate sections/.' I couldn't find it. So I had to go back and look
at the virtualenv to try to get a different python version, this not
very complicated; it just took me 1/2 half an hour.

Then I tried to translate : babel was not installed !?! To know that I
had to test several times, to try by myself, to try to understand (well,
you don't write to a list like this one without being sure of what
you're saying ), I wrote the first message of this thread. It took me
more that 24 hours (my working day included) to be able to go to the
next problem.

Then with the first translated message , i get a Unicode Error. (I
always have Unicode error with turbogears
http://groups.google.com/group/turbogears-trunk/browse_thread/thread/39cfdc88a03ac889/f1c6335e3205ba25

and if you read this thread you'll see it was really not my fault)

Well I'm a bit angry tonight, sorry about it. Programing is a hobby for
me , I really like it but i just get frustration with TG2.
I read the doc and I see a new feature ( or not even new) , or a
component that look really suited for the job, I'm very enthousiastic.
And then I try to implement what the doc is describing and sometimes
(very often actually) it doesn't work. --sigh-- And it takes me hours to
try to understand, circumvent or correct the problem. If I manage
I'm not clever enough in computer science and I have not enough time
(programming is not my primary job) to be able to understand the
internal of all the components of TG2.

Well I think I'm giving up, Im going back to Django, even if I'm sure
that it could be easier with TG

Cheers

Philippe
(ps Sorry for my english, I do my best)
