99%(if not more) of what(software) is in WRT54G is not done by linksys,
even the hardware is just a packaging/modification of a broadcom
reference design(there are other brands with almost exactly the same
thing).

So while GNU may have its disadvantages, WRT54G seems not to be the
right example of showing them
