I give Rosie O'Donnell credit for taking on projects knowing they'll be
difficult. McCalls Magazine was not being read and it was not able to be
transformed into the equivalent of Martha Stewart or Oprah's womens
service reads. The corporation wanted Rosie's name more than her ideas
and she wound up being used.

Similarly, The Attention Whores on The View status quo liked being able
to essentially walk over the somewhat milquetoast Meredith Viera and
Rosie brought both an audience, her own ideas, and a wish for the show
to (gasp) evolve and was stronger than her coworkers wanted her to be.

As I mentioned, I loved the Rosie O'Donnell talk show. I'll likely buy
the other season highlight sets that she'll produce at HSN.

Her "The Big Gay Sketch Show" on Logo (which I've caught up with on DVD)
is actually quite good. Consistently better, I'd say than MADtv. And it
actually has a better hit to miss ratio than SNL.

I liked most every Rosie Live guest (but for Rachel Ray) that I'd heard
of before. The problem was the writing and execution. The homages to
Carol Burnett, Jack Benny, Ed Sullivan and Judy Garland's shows were
just not funny whatsoever. It's not so much condemnation as complete
disappointment given the cast involved. You just think, is this actually
a tribute to plate spinning? Is it the Labor Day Telethon again early?

The benefit of both a DVR and broadcast feeds from Atlanta, Denver, and
San Francisco. Now if only the networks would give me three shows worth
watching at the same time again ala the Tuesday night logjams in the past.
