The State Plaza, on E Street, is probably the hotel in question. http://www.stateplaza.com/?src=ppc_google_brand_localbizad
A legitimate question is which streets will be shut down when you are there. Transportation plans are a bit in flux, and some traffic revisions went into effect *today*. Here's a somewhat unclear (at least to me) Washington Post blog post on the situation Sunday. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/getthere/2009/01/two_bridges_restricted_on_sund.html You will likely need to walk north of the Mall a bit, probably along 23rd. There's a Metro stop (Foggy Bottom) at 23rd and I, and it may be you'll need to walk at least that far. ________________________________ From: "Pollak, Melissa F." <[email protected]> You'll probably be able to catch a cab by raising your hand -- but you will probably be competing with "many" other people. There is no hotel close to the Lincoln Memorial. The closest is probably not the Watergate, but a boutique hotel near the State Department (and, unfortunately, I don't remember its name). Adams Morgan is not too far from the Metro Red Line. Foggy Bottom (blue/orange line) is your closest Metro station, and it's a bit of a hike, but not impossible. It's also a block from Pennsylvania Avenue where you can get a cab. If you can make it to K Street, you can catch a bus (L line), or Connecticut Avenue (#42), to Adams Morgan (if my memory serves me correctly). But I think you'll probably be able to get a cab. Because most people will probably hike to the Metro. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of PGage Sent: Friday, January 16, 2009 10:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [TV orNotTV] Re: Way OT: California Question We are leaving on the Red Eye tomorrow (Saturday Night/Sunday Morning). I have most of the plans set. We have purchased on winter gear, informed to a large extent by the advice here. Looks like it will be cold but not wet, so I am going with my sneakers and extra socks. I have printed out several google maps to guide me on the way. For some reason it seems really hard to get from the Lincoln Memorial (where we will be for the concert on Sunday) to the Adams-Morgan area, where we will be having dinner that evening, by public transportation. Google maps says it is only 3.5 miles, but takes 1.5 hours to walk then catch a bus. So I am thinking Taxi is our best bet. So now my question is, what is it like trying to hail a cab in the DC area, particularly near the Lincoln Memorial with a half a million of my fellow citizens nearby? Can I find a corner and raise my hand? My usual plan is to find the nearest hotel and catch one there. My memory is that the nearest hotel might be the Watergate, and I am not sure how long a walk that would be, if it is in the 15 minute range that would work fine.
