I did read, and enjoy, your bloviation.

We are actually not that far apart. I did enjoy The Wresler, and I do
think Milk is a flawed film, in many of the ways that you mention.
Rourke does a fine job in his role. Where we seem to disagree is with
your judgment that Penn turns Milk into an "an erratic unlikeable
character." I found Penn's Milk to be extremely likable, and warm and
charming - not annoying or boorish, though maybe a little obsessive. I
liked Brolin a lot, though not nearly as much as W., which I thought
was brilliant. I asked someone in San Francisco who knew a little
about the film why they did not develop the relationship of Milk and
White more in the film, and was told that one thing they didn't want
to do was make the movie about Dan White, or elevate him to some kind
of equal partner in Milk's story. If it made you sympathize with White
and get annoyed with Milk, then I guess they would be unhappy. It just
left me wishing we could see more of the Harvey and Dan story, and a
little less of the "lets get Harvey elected to something" story.

And yes, Penelope sadly kept all of her private places mostly covered.
She was a hell of a lot more sexy than either Tomei or Winslet but
kept a lot more covered up.
