He's a doctor and he has a lot of good contacts up on the Hill, so
he's a good choice to host segments on the health care reform bill.
Journalists, by their nature (and/or professional ethics), don't want
to favor any specific outcome, and Dean doesn't feel that constraint.
When he talks to senators and reps he clearly doesn't want the bill to
be too watered down. I also like the fact that he cares about the bill
and doesn't just use it as a framing device for partisan struggle or
positioning for 2012.

Outside of the health care bill, he's not much of a host. Lawrence
O'Donnell hosted on Monday and he has a much better TV presence.

I watch Countdown on the MSNBC website. That gives me a chance to
choose which stories I want to watch. Starting last week, the video
compression changed to something like I remember seeing on the Real
Player back when I had dialup. Since it's a talking head and b roll
show, it's not fatal as the audio is fine, but it's strange to see
online video go from smooth to choppy.
