The atheist character, as well as the opponents and conflicts, will
exist in the writer's head long before the actor sees them. Having a
character based on Penn doesn't mean the character will be a
non-believer. And even if the character was a non-believer, a good
actor with a script could be more convincing than Penn in the role.
