I am her friend (or is it follower, or fan, or whatever they call it) on the Twitter, and just followed the link to this too. She makes a good (if rather obvious) point. I don't agree with Kevin that she dismisses the King appearance (which she does describe as "incredibly uncomfortable"), its just that, given her place in the GOP she found the hypocrisy on display with Hannity more "unnerving". Howie Kurtz was more focused in his criticism of Prejean on King during his show this morning (apparently she tore a young staffer who had nothing to do with anything, at the DC CNN studio a new one and Howie did not approve). I don't post anything on the Twitter, but I do have about 20 people that I monitor (including Harry Shearer, Sarah Silverman, Michael McKean, Rachel Maddow and Christen Chenoweth - oh, and as I go to check on this I see the proper term is "follow"). Of these, McCain is the second most prolific twiterer (after Stephen Fry), and by far the least interesting. I am not sure what Kevin finds so attractive about her. Yes, she is a reasonable and rational Republican, but even I am not so disrespectful of Republicans to elevate any non-drooling, non-Neandertal member of that party to hero status. Not infrequently se "tweets" about how reading Stephen King is an example of her great love of "literature". Maybe I just don't understand the Twitter, but most of the other well known people I "follow" are more interesting, or funny, or something. Ms. McCain seems like a nice young woman, maybe not the deepest or most complex of thinkers, but open and searching and refreshingly willing to embrace her humanity. This makes her a decent human being, but not a hero. I guess to be fair my temperament is not really built for Twitter - I don't like the vague, impressionistic assertions it seems to encourage - since there is no room for elaboration (though Meghan does tend to string three and four twitter lines together, which I find hard to follow since I usually am reading them backwards). Sometime this weekend she wrote: "Newsweeks cover of Sarah Palin is the most sexist thing I have ever seen//. anyone that thinks that the media isn't sexist towards women in politics is delusional." I had not yet seen the cover, so it did stimulate me to go find it on the internet. Clearly, it is not the most sexist thing that I have ever seen - nor is it the most sexist think Ms. McCain has ever seen. It has Palin in her shorts in a sassy pose under and American flag - a photo I believe she posed for and used on the cover of some leisure magazine last year. The reason for using this picture is, I think, obvious. Maybe it is sexist, I would be interested in hearing someone make a thoughtful argument to that effect. I think a thoughtful counter argument can also be made. But Meghan is not interested in that (and again, I suppose that thoughtful argument is not what the Twitter is for). --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
