Not having seen the Facebook page, I assumed it said, "We weren't
invited and look what we got away with!"

Since nothing of note happened at the state dinner, I suppose if they
hadn't opened their mouths about it, nobody would have been the wiser
and they would have gotten away with it. I also suppose that they were
the ones to announce that they hadn't been invited, possibly to a
contact or acquaintance in the local media, to get attention. They
must have thought it made for a more compelling story.
