Oh, is "Glee" a reality show?
In fact, I would say that Fox is not getting that involved in reality
lately other than the big franchise ("Idol") and what they hope is the
next big franchise ("X Factor"). This past fall was the first fall in
years that they didn't pile on the reality shows--about the only ones
were the unsuccessful attempt to make "So You Think You Can Dance"
their next regular season franchise and wrapping up the summer run of
"Hell's Kitchen."
As for science fiction on Fox, they are not the niche-audience channel
that they were in the days of "The X Files" and SF is still a
relatively-niche-audience attraction when it comes to television. Tim
Goodman of the SF Chronicle I believes speaks a certain amount of
truth when he calls Fox "CBS Lite," since their schedules seem to
revolve around procedurals ("House," "Bones"), broad multicam sitcoms
("'Til Death," "Brothers") and the big reality franchise (You-Know-
What). About the only programming that seems like Old Fox is the
Saturday night reality stalwarts, Animation Domination on Sunday and,
in a fashion, "Glee." (And "Fringe.") Darnell can't even come up
with wacky reality shows anymore--"Conveyor Belt of Love" seemed to me
to be more a Fox show than an ABC show.
