Or even 6 episodes guaranteed like BBC does for a whole lot of shows -- Being Human, Demons, Outnumbered & Mistresses come to mind (I think those were all BBC and not ITV).
On another note: I watched "Raising Hope" last night not expecting a whole lot and was pleasantly surprised. While it was a little frenetic at times, it was a very amusing pilot.
