As someone who made the move from west coast to east, I'll certainly attest to the lack of early evening baseball (and for that matter Sunday morning football) contributed to my knowledge of current sports action narrowing. I suffer through more sports media now since it's about the only way I can see any games without paying satellite providers ridiculous sums of cash.

Also I suppose, many of our games our on while many of the eastern time zone is asleep. On the west coast, I never got to sleep without knowing the final score of every game in the majors leagues, and I can watch any game I have access to without going into heavy sleep debt.
