They probably want it to be like they remember it being 10, 20, or 30 years ago, even though their memories are flawed and neither what they remember nor what was actually done back then would work as a model today. Militant nostalgics are common in the People's Republic of Austin (as are militant utopians, which are basically the same but with "how it should be" instead of "how it was" and may also be in play here,) and I think the fact that people feel ownership of public radio stations they donate to only magnifies it. Personally, the changes I'd like to see KUT make would probably cause mass hysteria in those groups. Particularly the one involving one of their DJs who's viewed by many as a local treasure, but whose style is an acquired taste that I've never acquired. -- David J.
