It would be weird if they (or anyone) were universally liked. And the
successful online business models often involve a more explicit 'selling-out'
element than rock critics are likely to accept. From what I recall, an OK Go
video (the Rube Goldberg one) was sponsored by State Farm. DeRogatis couldn't
have been happy about that.

FWIW, I will likely go see Pomplamoose when they visit DC this summer.

As for DeRogatis' thoughts on twee indie rockers playing ukuleles, it seemed to
speak more about his disdain for twee indie rockers. Could have substituted
snark about their haircuts and wrote the same piece. There's an excellent
ukulele cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that might shut him up, but he's a rock
critic rather than a music critic.

And now, another view from public radio: Jim DeRogatis, former
Chicago Sun-Times rock critic and co-host with Tribune critic Greg Kot
of "Sound Opinions" ("the world's only rock and roll talk show"),
crabass lover of punk and hater of Springsteen and twee indie rock,
the guy who got fired from Rolling Stone for panning Hootie and the
Blowfish (and yes, the son of former NBC football analyst Al
DeRogatis), rages against Pomplamoose on his blog on the web site of
"SO"'s home station WBEZ in Chicago:

You should read his post about twee indie rockers playing ukuleles.
