Of course it is not that we don't need any more female cop shows - it is
that we now have lots of female cops and detectives on television, so many
that it hardly seems necessary or even possible to build a show around the
premise of "hey, this is a show about a female cop!". Fox just cancelled a
good crime show build around the idea of a woman being the top cop in a
major American city (Chicago Code). The main L&O franchise has had its
featured detective squad run by a woman for more than a decade, the most
popular crime shows on cable feature women law enforcement officers, both in
supervisory and street roles, and every edgy and wannabe edgy cop show for
the last 15 years has included a couple of female detectives and beat cops.
