I think of them as PBS, but they probably were BBC or something like that. I can not imagine anyone doing a better job than Alex Guinness with Smiley. I am sorry to hear your review, though since you are not familiar with the source material, I can't tell if they were done badly, or if they are just not your cup of tea. It doesnt really matter though since nothing will get me to not go see it for myself. Like pizza and sex, even bad le Carre is still pretty damn good in my book. The whole point of these books of course is to be understated, and rather bland, in an anti-James Bond kind of way.
