I am a huge le Carre fan, and especially of George Smiley and the Karla
novels. I also am a big fan of the TV movies from the early 80s (late
70s?). I think of them as PBS, but they probably were BBC or something like
that. I can not imagine anyone doing a better job than Alex Guinness with
Smiley. I am sorry to hear your review, though since you are not familiar
with the source material, I can't tell if they were done badly, or if they
are just not your cup of tea. It doesnt really matter though since nothing
will get me to not go see it for myself. Like pizza and sex, even bad le
Carre is still pretty damn good in my book.

The whole point of these books of course is to be understated, and rather
bland, in an anti-James Bond kind of way.

TTSS is the first novel in a trilogy - did you happen to hear if they are
planning on making films of the other two?
