I turned back on just as it was turning midnight. One thing I immediately noticed: when Dick did the show, he would provide an ad lib stream of commentary right after the ball dropped. Seacrest just shut up and hugged the musical guests, while the camera continued to pan Times Square. I preferred it the old way - Seacrest's way gave the impression that nothing was going on, and if nothing is going on, why watch in the first place? I flipped over to a Charlie Rose special with Oskar Eustis talking about Shakespeare.

Meanwhile, over on CNN before Zero-Hour, Anderson was strong-arming Kathy into remaining silent while "Auld Lang Syne" and "New York, New York" were to be played at the top of the hour.

Surprisingly, she complied.
