#2 is pretty much consistent with what Costas said the first night, which
was acknowledging that none of the events in primetime would be live, but
that the primetime show (your "The Olympics") would be presented without
revealing any of the results "in case you choose to watch them without
knowing".

It is fair enough that none of the other NBC programs have to follow that
edict, which as has been pointed out would verge on the absurd in some
cases. BUT - what NBC can not do in such a case (and which I suspect they
are trying to do) is to promote other programs, like Today, as if they are
part of the "The Olympics" program. No doubt Today is trying to increase
viewership by getting people who wake up in the morning and want to watch
"The Olympics" (the fact that Lauer did the Opening March of Nations is
testament to that). To the extent that Today or other NBC programs present
themselves as part of "The Olympics" , is is a dick move to reveal the
results (at the very least they should offer some kind of spoiler warning).
