There's an interesting couple sentences in that article: "Bays and Thomas have repeatedly mentioned how the two [kids] had no idea what they filmed and have known the ending when they brought it up recently."
IANASAGM, but if Bays and Thomas didn't tell them what they were filming, why would an actor remember a single scene from seven years ago? And it's entirely possible their lines aren't the giveaway as much as Saget's voiceover would be. As for the overall point of the article: fans get plot twists, and that's fine. But twists in the literal denouement (the last .04% of the series) are a different matter, because part of what makes a twist interesting is to see how it plays out, and you're not letting that happen. The audience just has to "accept" it. And given the pretty strong response from the fanbase, I don't think that's going to be considered acceptable. If there's a single reason I'd bet that the rumored ending is not true, it's that Neil Patrick Harris quote from up in the thread (who knows the full ending): "It's more complicated than you would assume, and for all of our fans, they won't be disappointed." I think Harris has built up enough credibility with fans in general that he would not want to risk pissing off a decent sized portion by effectively lying to them for a TV series that's off the air in a month.
