"It's perfectly possible: 3:00 PM ET/2:00 PM CT/1:00 PM MT/Noon PT. None of these are spectacularly out of range for a football game"

I'm not sure I'm following the point you're trying to make.  "These" are not different times...it's the same time, just in different time zones.

And of course it's *possible*...hell, someday the NFL will probably get greedy enough to start scheduling a *third* block of games, that play before the current early games that start at 1pm Eastern time.  But until then, the current format, with multiple games being played in the two blocks starting at 1pm EST and 4pmEST/1pmPST, is the model that's deemed to attract the most advertising dollars.  Scheduling a game between those two blocks would interrupt the flow from one set of games to the next (ignoring the issues that are already seen, with games that run long from weather or overtime), which wouldn't hang onto the maximum sets of eyeballs that they get from one game starting shortly after another one ends.

So, yes, you're exactly right...it's *possible*, but it would never even be considered, much less implemented.

I don't think the NFL considers it enough of an issue to make a change, as the requirements of scheduling games in locations spread across four time zones pretty much require the east coast games to be played before the start of the west coast games.

It's perfectly possible: 3:00 PM ET/2:00 PM CT/1:00 PM MT/Noon PT. None of these are spectacularly out of range for a football game (on Thanksgiving, for example, they start the first game at 12:30, and the traditional late games start as late as 4:25)

You're right that the NFL will never do it because it would impact revenues negatively. But as anyone who watched the last day of the 2012 EPL season will attest, it sure does make it a LOT more interesting.
