I wasn’t planning to, but today’s the deadline. In other words, not only won’t
you hear from me again on this topic, but how much is raised by midnight
tonight will determine how much more TV time can be bought. Anything you can
spare to help improve the congressional representation of the residents of the
Second District of North Carolina would be appreciated. Here’s the link for

After my one post about the debate, I dropped the subject – because it’s hard
to imagine anyone being more annoying and empty-headed than Ms. Ellmers. Even
Jon Stewart picked up on it:

I wouldn’t wish having to listen to her on anyone. You might as well listen to
one of the Kardashians – that’s how annoying the sound of her voice is.

Listening to Clay talk about his ad last week in a conference call, I was made
aware of something I had never given any thought to: Negative TV ads almost
always feature an anonymous voiceover, not the actual candidate talking
negatively about his or her opponent. However, since he made the decision to
run a negative ad (something he said he didn’t want to do – before his primary
opponent ran one about him), he decided that if he was going to run such an ad,
he needed to own it by doing the talking.

Since then, I’ve been paying more attention to the Virginia and Maryland ads
I’ve been seeing and discovered that not a single one uses the candidate’s own
voice to criticize his or her opponent.

This has been a fun and exciting and educational experience for me, and I
greatly appreciate your indulgence.
