I think that NBC is probably OK with the way things are going now as they hold 
the middle ground with someone who is out of the Leno tradition and who has the 
best shot at 'staying power' regardless of what happens politically (young 
host, from the SNL stable, and good overall writing staff).  They're perfectly 
happy with the mainstream choice for the long haul. The whole Letterman-Leno 
Late Night wars differed because the landscape changed due to Dave's 
availability giving CBS a shot (somewhat as Kimmel gave ABC).
