I just got around to watching the Jason Bateman interview from Colbert's
Russia shows last week (I watched the actual Russia bits last week).
Bateman references that Colbert did two monologues in one night, in the
same tie (I later did confirm that he was wearing the same tie for both the
Thursday and Friday monologue, something I have not checked in the past).

At first I thought this indicated that Bateman was originally scheduled to
be a guest on the "Friday" show and for some reason they moved it. But a
little googling showed that Bateman had been announced all along as the
Thursday guest. So now I conclude that Colbert does two monologues back to
back at the start of the first Thursday show, then does the comedy segment
and interview for the Thursday show, followed by the comedy segment and
interview for the "Friday" show (though I guess it is possible they do the
comedy segments back to back, and then the interviews, and then the music.

As has been noted here for many years, Dave used to do the Friday show on
Thursday night also; I guess though I always assumed they did the first
show, took a dinner break or something, brought in a second audience and
did the Friday show. But as I think about it that would be an inefficient
waste of time, and the point of the whole thing is to save time.
