The article goes on at length about what they believe to be Mohn's successes... to me, they are failings. Podcasting is NOT broadcasting, and NPR has been reduced to distributing podcasts instead of producing great radio. I also feel NPR has been pandering for the last couple years. The NY Times produced podcast The Daily, which is given prime time prominence on many NPR stations, exemplifies what I'm talking about; it couldn't be dumbed down any further without introducing sock puppets and Lady Gaga as a senior political correspondent. And the content produced by NPR isn't much better. What I've seen is that unless local stations are producing content independent of what NPR is distributing, the output is generally marginal at best. If the future of NPR is merely as a podcast syndicator, that is to be Mohn's legacy. Yes, he balanced the books, but at what cost?
