>From this week’s episode: They announced last week that the Tournament of Champions will start on October 31. They got feedback from concerned viewers that the November 8 episode will be pre-empted for election coverage. The producers decided to air a special episode on that day instead. There was an issue with the last tournament with the first to win three games format. TV listings and DVRs gave away the actual number of games played in advance. This happened during the prime time GOAT Tournament. They said for this ToC the listings will read “Game 4 (if necessary), etc. And since the tournament will air in Jeopardy’s usual time slot DVRs are going to record it anyway.
Most of the episode was an interview with the co-head writers. The interesting things I got out of that were in the old days when the board was made up of placards, they kept category names simple so they could reuse the placards. That’s why potent potables would come up so often. When they switched to video screens they could be much more flexible with category names. The other thing was that Alex came up with a way to keep track of what was going on in the game. If you recall watching him, he would make a check mark on something on his lectern after each response. The producers had already been working with a vendor for a new system and when one of the guest hosts proved simply unable to use Alex’s system they stopped tape, put in the new system, and started tape again. They never went back to the old system. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TVorNotTV" group.
