I've read that Canadian reception of U.S. transmissions has been ruled
illegal by a Canadian court. Canadians cannot buy us transmissions.
Personally, I don't believe that should be considered illegal. I
believe the court is ruling on the side of the Canadian sellers; to
protect them. If the U.S. transmitters don't want Canadians to receive
their signals, they should use spot beams that don't cross the border.
By the content of your email, it has the appears that you have a "dog in
this fight".

No, call it what it is. Calling it anything but theft is
disinformation, and misleads people into thinking there might be
nothing wrong with it. I expect knowlege to be spread truthfully and
accurately, now whitewashed to make theives feel good about their
activities.
