Most cable companies are supplying the local channels in digital packages unscrambled for those who have ATSC tuners in their tv sets (and of course do not use a cable box). One thing that needs to be done away with though are those horrible cable cards. Comcast pushes them around here. Luckily, our local cable company attempts to discourage their use. They are not a very good thing. Many tvs aren't capatible with some of those cards. Many tv issues I have had to do service calls on were caused by those stupid cards as well. Until they get something together that actually works on all sets and provide two-way services thru them, they aren't very good deals for anyone. Many people think they will replace the cable box then find out after shelling out the money for one that they can't order PPV with them. It creates a real pain for both the tv repair people and the cable company.
