Hi Nikhil ,

After u have compiled the kernel, that is, after u have issued the 'make' 
command, install the compiled modules by executing "make modules_install". This 
will install the modules. 

Then install the kernel by using the command "make install ".
This will put the kernel image in the /boot directory and will also make 
required entries to the grub cofiguration file

Do these and let me know if u are able to boot.

There is also another method if u are not able to automatically install the 
kernel image, u can copy the kernel image to the boot directory and then create 
a INITRD image and edit the /boot/grub.conf file manually, ... but it is 
generally not required, .....
it was not required for me. I was able to install the 2.6.24 kernel easily, on 
Fedora 8.

In case it does not work , i can explain the manual method in
more detail.
