Sandeep,

Dont buy a laptop based on the OS it comes with. Its like buying a book coz you
like the cover. If you are the least bit geeky, you would end up wiping off the
OS in a matter of months. Look inside, i.e. look at the configuration and ask
around.

Some hard fast rules that everyone knows :

1. Never get the latest and the greatest - let it be approved by the market
first to become a standard. This allows you to find help more easily in case
you decide to play around a bit and end up messing the configuration. In other
words, if you aint rich, dont experiment too much coz living on the edge has
its own pitfalls.

2. Dont go for branding, coz bigger brands have bigger tie-ups and hence cost
more (not to mention the markerting costs which finally affect the price). Take
HP, for example - its a universal fact the Vista has proven to be the worst OS
anyone can have. And HP supports only Vista thats coz they might have made a
huge deal with Microsoft to promote it coz no one is buying it out of will.
Thanks to Microsoft and HP, I am now a full time linux/unix fan. Vista did it
for me. (34Gb preinstalled footprint - and 10Gb backup drive - come on,
really? I used dream of 40Gb harddisks not so long ago!)

3. Look around for smaller players - they normally wont do big handshakes hence
go lighter on the pocket. They have almost the same configuration just not so
great packaging thats all.

4. Before you buy - google abit for the same configuration, you will see how
the same configuration is being accepted by the community. Also, you get to
know where to go in case you mess up.

5. Driver support - the most important factor of all. These days some
laptops come only with Vista and they support no other. Its like your
television deciding which channels you should watch (of course, HD is an
exception coz of hardware limitations ). I believe, Laptop is your machine and
you should be allowed to have any OS that you want to. Biasing towards just one
OS should be a crime against humanity. And HP should be crucified just for
this.

I hope this helps or at least makes you aware that if you make a wrong choice
when buying laptops - you might end up ranting alot like me and life suddenly
seems unfair. Good luck!
