Looks like your laptop investment is in the range 35 - 40K.

How about looking for a laptop that has the following 
components "only" 
 . USB ports
 . VGA output port
 . DVD drive
 . Ethernet port
 . WiFi 802.11
in addition to standard processor, RAM and disk.
The LCD screen can be 14" or 15" doesn't matter. 

i'm sure you can get a spec like above in about 22 - 26K.

The balance amount of 12 - 14K can be put in a term deposit
for a period of 366 days @ 9.5%  

The novelty of, oh its soo cool and i'll drool on my laptop
wears off in 6 months, and in a years time, new models are
available. Use your laptop well for 2 days and then donate
to your younger brother/charity and move on to the next one.

By reducing your entry barrier in terms of cost, you continue
to be more profitable.
