You have not mentioned what is your interest i.e. Developer or Admin. I am presuming that you are interested in Development given that you have mentioned Java. Again within the realm of Java are you interested in the embedded, client, or server side? Depending upon on your inclination the choices are several. To name a few - Qt/Gtk/Java/Python for the desktop. PHP/Python/Ruby/Java for the server side. You need to specify your interest to get more specific guidance. HTH -- Arun Khan
