Yeah, when talking about .NET I tend to jump to PDP because it works, it's well supported, and (shame on me) because I think of Uni* connectivity from .NET as pounding square connectivity pegs into round requirement holes. I'm just going by what I see people going through in this forum. The reality is that many projects don't need the features in PDP and I guess a lot of developers are used to working with the older code, so I need to be a bit more judicious about making recommendations. If Uni* API's work then use them. > I think what worried me most was that the SMA only covered > minor product upgrades and since it was fairly new I was > worried that there might be a couple major upgrades coming up. That's a very good point that I never thought of, though here we are after a year in production and it's still at 1.x - I sort of doubt this will be an issue if a developer discusses this with RD up-front. A clause for this applies to most software that's sold. > We never did get it in house so I can't comment on its > technical merits. > However, based on its pricing I just can't see justifying it > for U2 only access. <somber personal musings> <Not directed at Colin, RD, or anyone else!> <I don't sell PDP and generally don't care what technologies people use> <what's with all the tags?> It's very difficult for anyone to compete with "free" (as in beer). The free software juggernaut should compel vendors to ensure that their commercial software is especially worthy of the fee being asked. But on one hand we have commercial vendors who don't quite get that concept yet, or they don't do the marketing to support their product, relying on just saying it's "good" to make sales. And on the other hand we have many developers who don't care or don't know about features and only pay attention to the price tag. I often wonder just how much these factors hold our market back compared to more mainstream offerings. </></></></> Tony ------- u2-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.u2ug.org/listinfo/u2-users
