Flexibility, yes, but they do not always perform as well across levels of
call statements. When redimensioning is desired, they are really handy.
When that is not a requirement, static arrays may be the better choice. I
think Mark B. and Jim T. proved that back when release 7 was born.

I believe that the actual number of elements in a (PICK-Style) dimensioned
array is limited by the number of consecutive "slots" available in the
VARTAB, which starts out with 64K "slots", and decreases for each variable,

etc, defined.  In practice you could have a dimensioned array of 64K, but
really that's not possible since it's usual for a program to have numerous
variables; 32K is more believable.  In any case, switching over to
Prime-style dimensioned arrays gives you much more flexibility as it only
consumes a single "slot" in the VARTAB.
