IMO IBM is pretty messed up in this regard.
I recently ran into the same situation where we are no longer allowed to
access IBM directly and had to go through a VAR. They eventually agreed
to set us up an account so that we could at least perform searches on
the IBM web site. After that was setup we could log into the site and
search BUT 99% of the results were locked out so we had no access to the
info other than that included in the search summary. Of course
navigating the labyrinths that is the IBM web site to figure out where
to actually do a search or even just to find the proper product page is
another nightmare altogether.

Personally I think that IBM should take a cue from MS and make all
documentation, knowledgebase, etc open for public access. Why they
think this is info is so hush hush top secret I have no idea. Its hard
to promote a product that is locked in a vault in the basement out of
view from all but the illuminate. ;-)

Why does IBM send me alerts that document information is available but
after I get on their site they won't let me read it. I have a couple of
different logins on their site and I never know which one is necessary
to get to where. Why not have one login that allows you to get to what
they want to let you get to and have done with it? One way I log in it's
my email address and a special IBM assigned user ID, another is a user
name created by me with a password created by me, and then there is
another screen that asks for a user ID and password but it isn't any
that I have already mentioned. Yes I have a support contract with IBM
but the contact letter/number combination seems to change yearly and the
IBM site keeps telling me that the contract number is not valid. When I
do get logged in the sites display my name and company name correctly so
what is the problem.
