I think the problem is much of this topic is dependent on the Database being discussed. E.g this http://www.sqlteam.com/article/introduction-to-locking-in-sql-server is a fairly good description of sql server locking, but is largely irrelevant to U2. If anything were to be written that was completely generic it would probably be in the realms of computer science and database theory and be too theoretical to be of any practical use.
