You actually had me believing the planetary code bit... I quickly looked it up because I wanted to see what happened if I created a barcode that directed a letter to somewhere other than Earth.
Shame 'PLANET' is just an acronym... -----Original Message----- From: u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org] On Behalf Of George Gallen Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2012 7:42 AM To: U2 Users List Subject: Re: [U2] United States Postal Service - Intelligent Mail barcode What I find amusing is that the USPS really really planned ahead with the Imb, in that leading Up to it, they instituted a planetary code....Really. That's pretty impressive. Wow, now my Mail can misdirected to other planets!! The Imb is not the same barcode as the old postnet barcode, it is it's own 2D barcode. Make sure Your printer can handle outputting that barcode as well. George http://www.neodynamic.com/barcodes/PLANET_Barcode.aspx This link describes the planet code (Imb) it may help (although it's most likely also contained in the pdf the OP already had). -----Original Message----- From: u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org] On Behalf Of Wjhonson Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2012 9:30 AM To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: Re: [U2] United States Postal Service - Intelligent Mail barcode They don't *need* to :) they *want* to Because you get a bulk mailer discount if you do, and you sort it, and its 500 pieces or larger. Something like that. We just did it. Personally they probably spent more to program it then they'll ever see in savings. Ha. -----Original Message----- From: sam.alan <sam.a...@zoominternet.net> To: u2-users <u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org> Sent: Tue, Nov 20, 2012 5:38 am Subject: [U2] United States Postal Service - Intelligent Mail barcode We have a client that needs to print the United States Postal Service’s Intelligent Mail barcode (Imb) on their bills. The USPS has provided specifications for encoding the zip codes into the format needed to print the IMb. https://ribbs.usps.gov/intelligentmail_mailpieces/documents/tech_guides/SPUSPSG.pdf (The encoding specifications begin in section 3.2, page 4.) The ideal solution would be for us to add a call from our UniBasic bill print program to a subroutine that performs the necessary steps to encode the zip codes into the IMb format. Has anyone already written a program that does the encoding? They are running UniData 6.0.12, SB+ 5.2.4 on Windows Server 2003. _______________________________________________ U2-Users mailing list U2-Users@listserver.u2ug.org http://listserver.u2ug.org/mailman/listinfo/u2-users _______________________________________________ U2-Users mailing list U2-Users@listserver.u2ug.org http://listserver.u2ug.org/mailman/listinfo/u2-users _______________________________________________ U2-Users mailing list U2-Users@listserver.u2ug.org http://listserver.u2ug.org/mailman/listinfo/u2-users _______________________________________________ U2-Users mailing list U2-Users@listserver.u2ug.org http://listserver.u2ug.org/mailman/listinfo/u2-users
