we have spent the last 10 days trying to get this to work ALL THE TIME. we used to cpio the account up, ftp it across and then cpio it out again. However we were finding that files were not being included in the cpio output. We know from experience that tar doesn't work on the input side of things. so the other alternative is to use uvbackup. However on an aix system there is a limit of 2gb file sizes so it makes multiple files. Not only that but it takes FOREVER to do the backup - on a aix box it took about 7 hours to backup 4.5gb of data, yet uvrestore takes 20 minutes to restore it on the w2k server. However we were originally using uvadmin to do the restore but this has no functionality to deal with multiple files. Therefore you need the command line version to do it. We are still getting intermittent errors with some files not being restored. There is a known issue with type1 files not working when you restore it - they should be resized to type 19 before uvbackup is done. However, we are also having problems where a "find . -print" to get the list of files to backup causes a failure in the restore. However if we do a "find ./ACCOUNT -print" from the parent directory of the account, the files restore ok. We're still working on getting a reliable routine together. However in the past we've successfully just cpio'd the data, ftp'd across (in binary) and then "uncpio'd" it back out again. However recent events in the past month or two, on uv10, w2k servers have caused us these problems. hth, Andy
