Or as Murphy would put it, the surest way to get about average rainfall this year is to put up a marginal 24GHz link.

Yes, there is nothing absolute there, if you want a full reading of the chart, which is historically complied, you will see that each area has a range of rain and a mathematical probability associated with it.

While it would be appropriate to state that real life experience observed (non scientifically) can differ with the charts, however expecting more optimistic results as potentially predicted by the charts would be a significant judgement in error ...

(It's like the 100 year flood zone... if nothing happens in your lifetime, you can say... I don't believe in it, however if it happened once in your lifetime, one would have a different opinion, scientifically, the probability of two 100 year events happening in one lifetime is very small, but in reality it is still possible).

Assuming the charts are accurate... for our area, they don't seem
to be. Doug Watkins has made a ton of observations regarding the
rain our area receives and the imposed signal loss. The
    charts\math isn't always correct.

Let's put this into context... Rain fade varies from place to
place, region to region, you can find specifics about your area
    via ITU rain fall charts.

South Florida is listed as Rain Fall 'n' region, part of the worst
    group on the charts

24Ghz, is affected by size of the rain drops and how 'hard' it
rains.. (how fast it rains... rain speed ?)
e.g looking at attenuation on 24ghz due to rain, at 2km, it is
0.4db for 1.25mm/hr rain fall, however for the same distance it
jumps to 8db for 25mm/hr rainfall. FYI Rain Zone N can have
    rainfall between 5mm/hr to 180mm/hr !)

Airfiber24, will drop link somewhere about -80/-80...

So if you short link has a -40 or -38 signal, then you have 40db
to play with before it drops..

Lots of factors that go into this, and above is a summary listing
    of what they are...

This is the reason why, one simply must keep the location in mind,
    before comparing someone else's experience...
(unless of-course that someone else is in the same rain fall region).

As we say ... YMMV !

    :)

Have AF24 links from .5 to 1 mile and have seen zero rain
fades so far. Set at just under 800Mbps.
