Is there anyway to back up the files I want to keep from the main drive
before reinstalling? I can boot it with the Live CD but only with the
Try without changing anything to your computer option.

Subject: [Bug 372013] Re: Ubuntu fails to launch server x

Sounds like this is an upgrade that went sour, rather than an X bug in
particular. Not sure which package it should go against, but maybe
easiest to just reinstall.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

After boot info and pswd is given it reads:

Cannot create a temp file, the connection has been refused, ERRNO111.
Unable to connect to x server

No such process ERRNO 3. Server error

Error in locking authority file/home/aidake/.Xauthority. Fatal server
error. Could not create lock file in /tmp/.tXO-lock

Than it takes me back to the command prompt.

This is release 9.04

This problem came up once before when I had to manually shut it down but
I booted from the original disk and restarted and that fixed it. Wasn't
the case this time.
