If samba4 is so experimental then why is it *by default* what gets
installed when you attempt to install "samba" (without the "4"
specified)? I've seen that mentioned elsewhere as if the common user
sees a visible choice.
I will try this "purge" procedure shortly. This is the first time I've
ever heard of "purging" a package before replacing/upgrading it...
shouldn't this be part and parcel of the installation procedure for this
package in its current state? This ticket is also the first time I've
seen this described as a potential solution to this problem (I searched
all over before I opened this ticket, weeks after I first noticed it).
Based on another ticket I've been watching the exact procedure it to run
"sudo apt-get purge samba4", then install "samba" (samba4) as I
attempted before. **IF there is anything additional involved in
performing such a purge that you meant to recommend please let me
know.** I will follow up with the results.
