Similar write speed problem I had with Seagate Expansion Portable Hard Drive 500GB (model inside ST500LT012-9WS142) on my laptop x55u. I had lower write speed than Verbatim (Seagate inside). So I set it as record disk to SMART TV. With Samsung TV record fine.
