Just for completeness, at least the upgrade pulled in the new linux- modules and linux-modules-extra as it was supposed to do. Also saw that the update seems to have gone from 3.13.0-161 to 3.13.0-167 so this means a larger delta has to be considered. And one more note, there seem to be a large number of previous kernels still installed. This can cause issues with completely full filesystems (especially if /boot is small and separate). Unfortunately back in Trusty automatic purging did not work or was not yet implemented. So one had to do it manually (maybe "sudo apt-get autoremove --purge" works but one would need to be careful that neither -161 nor -167 appear in the list).
