I have this issue on a laptop.
Booting on the 160 kernel leads to a black screen
Selecting advanced settings at the Grub menu, and advanced settings for 160 
loads the menu and if I select "Resume Boot" and can boot to a working screen 
(though my HDMI out doesn't work)

Booting to the 157 kernel - both screen and HDMI output work fine.

Thanks folks! If there are other diagnostics I can try to do them
