Public bug reported:
Hi,
I'm using puppet to automatically install ubuntu machines. I'm using
this for about a decade, and automatically installing printer-driver-
cups-pdf and other printer drivers always worked smoothly, including
Ubuntu and Kubuntu 26.04. No problem at all until recently.
Today, an automatic installation failed, obviously after lpadmin has
been changed recently:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 35200 Jun 5 16:14 /usr/sbin/lpadmin*
Reason for failure:
Although run as root, installing printer-driver-cups-pdf hangs forever,
because lpadmin now even asks root for a password:
/bin/sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/printer-driver-cups-pdf.postinst configure
runs
lpadmin -h localhost -p PDF -v cups-pdf:/ -m lsb/usr/cups-pdf/CUPS-
PDF_opt.ppd -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftocairo -o printer-is-
shared=no -o PageSize=a4
which runs, for some unknown reason, for a password, what it didn't do until
recently, and thus breaks automatic installation:
Passwort für root auf localhost?
even when entering, it keeps asking again.
