This was discussed in today’s SRU team meeting. We have agreed to reopen
this bug. AIUI, this change unnecessarily broke users of certain
specific hardware during the lifetime of an Ubuntu release and there is
no technical reason (eg. known severe CVE) that we cannot continue to
keep a suitable version of this driver available for those users, even
if that must become DKMS-only and not part of the signed kernel package.
