That also makes sense. 2880x1620 is not a mode supported by the monitor
according to drminfo*.txt. So if it's available in Settings then Mutter
is faking it, which is also supported by the fact the kernel still
reports the real mode is 3840x2160,
I would have expected fake modes to be implemented with black bars
and/or hardware scaling, but drminfo2.txt shows that's not being used.
So this is just an annoyance in how Mutter is implementing fake modes.
As an alternative, try these real modes supported by the monitor:
3840x2160 with fractional scale 133% = logical resolution 2880x1620
2560x1440 with scale 100%
