Hey Collin, I have to be honest here. This bug report is turning into a political debate surrounding GNU coreutils vs. uutils coreutils and Launchpad is not the correct place for this. I understand that you are frustrated, but I don't see how this is constructive for either of the parties involved here.
I want to be clear, I am *not* blaming the Debian maintainer. Their work is greatly appreciated and there's as you say: no obligation for Debian to consider the release cadence of Ubuntu. However this bug report is *specifically* requesting a new version of GNU coreutils, and Debian **is** the place to do this. I am simply saying that requests have been made for this. Finally, please consider that we would need a well founded reason to bump the GNU coreutils from Debian. Is there something wrong with version 9.10? If this reason is "there's a new feature", then this is much less of a priority than "this fixes a serious issue **and** we can't cherry-pick the patch". If you have such an issue **please let us know** so we can make a fair assessment. It is not a question about "the possibilty to maintain multiple providers of coreutils", it's a question of "is misaligning from upstream worth it". Consider if we were to make a patch on Ubuntu -- we might not be able to forward this to Debian as they are running a different version.
