I thought this bug only affects people who upgraded from older Ubuntu
versions but yesterday I installed 8.04 desktop on a brand new computer
and the bug is there...

Can I somehow help with getting it fixed?

Until it's fixed: Is there ANY WAY AT ALL to have working keyboard
layout indicator in Ubuntu panel and switch layouts by clicking on this
indicator? I install computers for non-geeks and they are unable to
remember some sort of key-combination to switch layouts.

As I mentioned on 2008-05-24, the "setxkbmap" solution doesn't work for
Czech layout.

Switching autologin off is also out of question because these users
don't even know their passwords.
